If Internet commerce isn't already the hottest area of the computer industry, it soon will be. The projections for online shopping are close to astronomical, and that's only the smaller part of the area that I-commerce covers. Business-to-business solutions (extranets) and intra-business solutions (intranets), developed using Web-based technology, are expected to have an even greater impact on the computer industry in the near future. So, its about time for everyone who's interested in the ways of the trade to make sure they have a good understanding of what its all about. I've therefore added this I-commerce section to my Web site with the intention of supplying relevant information concerning this topic. However, as this topic is a rather large one, only partial coverage is aspired for here. Please check back here from time to time, as new content will be added regularly.

To start with this section will include a collection of links to sites that supply high-quality information on different sub-areas of I-commerce:

  • http://www.ispo.cec.be/ecommerce : is an informational site on electronic commerce that the European Union supplies. It contains lost of relevant material and statistics.
  • http://www.wilsonweb.com/research : is a excellent starting point for those that really want to get into what I-commerce is. The site contains tons of useful information and much of it is completely free.
  • http://www.ibm.com/e-business : this site is provided by IBM, and thus biased towards their products. However, it contains a good and short introduction to I-commerce.

One of the major obstacles to full fledged I-commerce is the problems surrounding the financial transactions, that are necessary when paying for goods and services obtained via the Web. I have spent the last six months studying this particular area, since I chose it as the focus of my Master thesis in computer science. The report from this work is published here on my site, and includes both a background description of I-commerce and Secure Electronic Transactions (SET). Furthermore, it supplies both a market survey and a test implementation of SET technology. So, feel free to press the S E T link here below to access this report!
